Can’t decide between a low-racer and a high recumbent? Not a problem…

Chinese carbon trike, originally uploaded by Ben Cooper.

The German KMX distributor was just unpacking this – it looks reasonably well made, but carbon is tricky stuff to work with – it’ll be interesting to see how good it really is. Weight seemed a couple of kg lighter than a Scorpion, but with no suspension, and it’ll be about £2000-£2500…

HPVelotechnik Grasshopper fx, originally uploaded by Ben Cooper.

I’ve already ordered my demonstrator – they’ll be available from February, and I’ll add a preorder page to the website ASAP. Daniel was very forthcoming about how they solved the chain problem – “We put a chain in a piece of tube, and bent it sideways – it just works!”

The wheelbase is about 5cms longer than the non-folding Grasshopper…

HPVelotechnik Spirit Electric, originally uploaded by Ben Cooper.

This is probably going to be available in the Spring if BionX are forthcoming…

HPVelotechnik mesh seat, originally uploaded by Ben Cooper.

Coming in the Spring – a mesh seat that’ll fit all BodyLink-compatible frames (StreetMachine, Speedmachine, Grasshopper, Scorpion).

Coming in a month or two – bolt-on carbon-fibre side wings for the Scorpion seat to give you more side support if you need it…

Quite a clever idea this – police are offering unclaimed stolen bikes to commuters, according to a BBC article
