8-Speed Brompton, originally uploaded by Ben Cooper.

We’re now offering this as an option on all new Bromptons – it’s a modified Sturmey Archer 8-speed hub gear, with modified Brompton chain tensioner and a smaller chainset to make the ratios work out.

Normally, I’ll be fitting a Truvativ chainset – this customer requested 150mm cranks, which meant these Stronglight ones.

Humber Bicycle, originally uploaded by Ben Cooper.

On loan from Neil at Common Wheel, I’m having a lot of fun riding on this very dignified 1914 (ish) Humber roadster…

Mark Beaumont has smashed the record for cycling around the World, doing it in an amazing 195 days – that’s 81 days less than the previous record. He did it all on a Rohloff-equipped Koga touring bike…

A BBC News article has the story of his completion, and the BBC Scotland Outdoors site has lots of info on the whole trip.

I’ve just found out that the segment we recorded was broadcast last Saturday – so if you want to hear me talking far too fast about folding bikes, you can listen again on the BBC website. The clip is about 22 minutes in.

That link will only work for a while, though, so I’ve downloaded the relevant 3 minutes as an MP3

We also filmed for the TV version of the Adventure Show – no idea when (or if) that’s being broadcast yet.

Just as well known for his spoof cycling products (like the granite saddle for real men), as for his encyclopaedic knowledge of all things technical, Sheldon Brown was a one-off – bike mechanic, photographer, Glibert and Sullivan fan, and known around the cycling world for his expertise. He died on February 3rd of a massive heart attack – our sympathies, of course, go to his family and friends.

peergynt, originally uploaded by Ben Cooper.

This tricked-out Peer Gynt recumbent was found in Clerkenwell, London – if it’s yours, you’ll have the key for the lock ;-)

Contact Pete at Velovision magazine for more details…

Update: the owner has now been found ;-)
