Brompton Front Carrier Quick Release System: This is very clever, yet beautifully simple - a plastic block fitted to the head tube of the bike accepts a steel frame, which can have one of three bags attached to it. The carrier block has a catch to stop the bag coming off when you don’t want it to, but press a button and it lifts off easily (the frame has a carrying handle). This is the standard cloth pannier made by Carradice from waterproof polyester. The main pocket has a divider for papers and there are two rear pockets for tools, maps or sandwiches. Total capacity is 22 litres. Also available is a folding basket shown to the right, which is made from the same material as the pannier, and provides a large (24 litre) open -topped container ideal for shopping. The basket is held open by a folding frame. There are drainage holes in the bottom in case of rain.
The front carrier block weighs 100g, the cloth pannier weighs 1380g, and the folding basket weighs 1340g. The front carrier frame is also available separately, and weighs 690g on it’s own - handy for strapping a rucksack onto with bungee cords.

Recently introduced is the touring pannier, which also fits to the same frame as the other bags. This has a lot more capacity than the cloth pannier (approx. 28 litres), and has a roll-top system with nylon clips for closing. There are two rear pockets with roll-tops, and an internal divider. Additionally, three elasticated nets on the outside are ideal for stuffing things you need during the ride. Total weight is 1670g.

Cover and Saddle Bag:

Brompton make a zip-up cover ideal for hiding your bike from the prying eyes of train conductors. It is also good for protecting your car’s upholstery, or making your bike more acceptable in polite company (like visiting the bank manager). The cover stows away in it’s own saddle bag when not in use. £20.      

B Bag: New from Brompton, this padded bag offers a lot more protection than the cover, though it’s bigger ;-)

Sized to hold any Brompton, made from tough nylon with 5mm foam padding, a wipe-clean interior, and a reinforced base with castor wheels. The B Bag comes with a towing strap, padded shoulder strap, handles and two interior pockets - one for a map, one for tools and spares.
