There are two ways that the gear cables can get into the hub: Standard cable routing: The outer cables terminate in a stop bolted to the v-brake boss on the frame. The inner cables then continue on to the hub, with cable splitters to separate them when you want to remove the wheel. External cable routing: The outer cables run all the way to a “clickbox” which attaches directly to a plate on the hub. To remove the wheel, just undo the thumbscrew and take off the clickbox. This version is completely sealed from the elements, and slightly quicker to use, but more expensive. This is the only option for disc brake Rohloffs. The hub (like all hub gears) needs some way of transmitting the torque to the frame - there are several ways to do this, using different end plates on the left side of the hub: Standard torque arm: This is the normal way, for most frames. The torque arm is bolted to the hub, and has a quick-release fitting on the other end. The bracket attaches to the chainstay with two clamps, but the torque arm can be released by just pushing a button..
