Electronic shifting is possible with both Rohloff and Alfine Brompton upgrades:
- With Alfine, the Di2 system uses a battery inside the frame, and a display with shifting buttons on the handlebar. The hub is different to a standard Alfine hub so electronic shifting cannot be added later. It can be combined with a belt drive, but this needs a custom rear triangle.
- With Rohloff, the Sternshift system can be fitted to any hub, and uses a small battery and a couple of buttons on the handlebar. It can be combined with belt drive with no other modifications.
Either option can be added as part of a kit or a complete build. For fitting the battery inside the frame, you need to drill a small hole for the cables. Both options are the same price.
