This Nickel Brompton was upgraded with Alfine Di2 8-speed electronic gears, Hope hydraulic disc brakes and SON dynamo lighting.
Julie’s Cargo Trike
This recumbent cargo trike was built mostly from 4130 chromoly steel, with an aluminium seat frame and stainless steel and aluminium fittings.
The large cargo box has a tailgate, lighting, fenders, and a trailer hitch underneath.
The drive system uses a Rohloff gear in the centre, driving a differential to both back wheels. The braking is from disc brakes on both back wheels.
A Heinzmann DirectPower motor in the front wheel is powered by a battery carried on the box – a spare battery fits to the other side of the box.
Red & White Rohloff Disc Brompton
Built with an integral rear rack, Rohloff 14-speed hub with Cinq5 gear shifters, SON Edelux dynamo lighting and Hope hydraulic disc brakes.
Alfine Di2 11-speed Brompton
This Brompton got an Alfine 11-speed hub gear with the Di2 electronic shifting.
It also has Hope hydraulic disc brakes.
Copper Rohloff Brompton
This bike has a copper-plated mainframe, which should age beautifully.
It’s got a Rohloff hub gear, Hope hydraulic disc brakes, SON dynamo lighting, Hope headset, and loads of other little details.
Recumbent Sizing
Setting a recumbent up for your size is pretty simple. The main measurement used is the x-seam. To find this, sit on the floor with your back against a wall, and measure from the wall to the soles of your feet.
If you want to be a little more accurate, you can arrange an angled board, or even a stack of books so your back isn’t vertical, but I’ve found that this doesn’t usually make much difference to the result.
With this x-seam measurement, I can adjust your recumbent to approximately the right size for you before shipping it. You may need to make some fine adjustments, so it’s always good to go for your first few rides with a set of Allen keys so you can fine tune it, but you shouldn’t have to make any big changes or adjust the chain.
Pinion Touring Bike
This custom frame was built around the Pinion enclosed gearbox.
This is the 9-speed version, but there are versions with up to 18 gears.
Built to be belt-drive ready.
Hope disc brakes.
Candy Apple Rohloff Brompton
A great colour combination for this build, with a lime green mainframe, red hubs and light, and the rest of the build in black.
Rohloff hub with Cinq5 thumbshifters, SON hub dynamo lighting, and TRP Spyre / HY/RD disc brakes.
A Pair Of Alfine Bromptons
Built for a couple from Germany, these two Bromptons got integral rear racks, Alfine-11 gearing and rear cable disc brakes.
They also got the J-Tek Alfine shifters, much neater than the usual Alfine Rapidifre shifter on the M/H bars.
The EU Referendum
To say that this is not what we wanted is an understatement – as a company, Kinetics imports from Europe and exports to Europe all the time, we are European. Working together benefits us so much more than turning away would. We have many friends in Europe, and European friends who have come here to work and live.
